20 years ago today freddie mercury died. one day after issuing a statement confirming that he had AIDS.

queen have never been a critics' band, perhaps only in their early days they were considered cool. however, i don't think many people would be afraid to admit they like queen, perhaps for only a short period in the band's history.

let's make this a little tribute. no, nothing too serious. just comment with an interesting story about queen. or post a video. what song do you love the most? what is the first queen album you bought, which one's your favourite? anything you'd like to share..

This video contains content from Queen Productions and UMG, one or more of whom have blocked it in your country on copyright grounds.

OK let's start by telling anyone who doesn't know me that I'm old enough to have bought a couple of albums at the time they came out. Sheer Heart Attack was the first album that caught my attention and it's still my favourite. I think I must have bought the first two albums pretty soon after that, in any case before A Night at the Opera was released. Jazz was the last album I got. During the Flash Gordon and Hot Space period I kinda lost interest a bit. After that I continued to follow what they were doing, but only purchased the occasional single. I used to be able to name the order of all the tracks on the first seven albums, and I can possibly still do that if I really tried.

Now, let's end with this:

My dad was at the Hyde Park concert in 1976. He was with his then girlfriend (before he had even met my mother). I know, everyone and their auntie claims they were there but I believe him on this one. I just asked him about it to make sure I had the year right, and he says I should tell you there's a bootleg recording available of the concert of pretty good quality but you probably know that already.

my favorite queen track is "Son & Daughter (1973 Langham I Studio Demo)"

Brian May totally rips it up on his red special

Is that the version on the Queen At The Beeb / BBC album?

No I don't think so. I found 1973 Langham I Studio Demo on an album of Queen rarities. It probably is not official release.

Keep Yourself Alive.

Of course, there's many more: Bohemian Rhapsody, Fat-Bottomed Girls, The Game, Crazy Little Thing Called Love, the bicycle song, it keeps going . . .

I remember reading videotext at half past twelve at night and reading about him having aids. I had temporary moved back with my parents and walked into their bedroom to tell them the latest news.

A day later when he passed away, I told my parents that I did tell them about his disease, it couldn't have come as a surprise...
