I was in the states last week, and noticing how scarily polarized the country is. To some degree I think this is because the Karl Rove-era Republicans and their attack-attack-attack attitude (witnessed now as they start the rumor campaign to try & shift blame from Bush to Democratic officials like the Mayor of NO & the Governor of Louisiana). The comment above is an unnecessarily crude example of this.

However, I think the comic is a poor criticism & an oversimplification. Congress should be a deliberative body, and not the venue for a rapid response. Thus the ridiculousness of the law put in place exclusively for Terri Schiavo. I don't remember if congress was in session then, but they weren't last week and they did convene an extraordinary session to pass a bill for money for the relief effort.

I don't know if the Clinton administration would have done a better job than Bush, but I'd like to think he wouldn't have continued to read stories to children when told a plane had hit the WTC, and I'd like to think he wouldn't have stayed on holiday after told of the level of devastation in New Orleans. Though I'm not sure anyone realized (or communicated) how bad things were in the immediate aftermath.

sorry for re-comment, had to fix an important mistake

Pretty funny and, sadly, true.
