avec le temps..

as i said last week, i want to return to doing support soon. about five days ago i emailed all admins of the categories i have privs in. i thought they might have some advice or suggestions on how to catch up quickly.

eight emails sent, so far not one reply. i know, some might be on vacation. those that aren't may not have the time. it's not a big deal, but i do think it's a little weird. i'm sure they haven't forgotten me already. i think.

some people seem to have sixteen songs on their copy of cristina branco's corpo iluminado. i have seventeen.

this bonus track is called avec le temps. it was originally written and composed by léo ferré. for everyone, but especially for aerodrome1 and kissmecaitlin i'm posting it here. i thought it would be nice to couple it with dutch singer wende's version of the same song.

Well, thanks. This bonus track is new to me, too. Do you know Madredeus?
Jun. 13th, 2007 12:46 am (UTC)
i think i have one or two of their songs on a mixtape somewhere, but other than that, no..

thank you. i'll check this all out later. right now i think i might need some sleep. :)
oh i remember, you're from portugal yourself, aren't you?
Jun. 13th, 2007 09:08 am (UTC)
Yep, i am.

oh i found the mixtape i was talking about. there are two tracks by madredeus on it. vaca de fogo and os passaros quando morrem caem no ceu. i hope that is spelled correctly. :)

Spell is correct :) Those are great songs fom their early years (the songs i am "rapidsharing" here are from the very same years). Madredeus isn't Fado as Cristina sings it but their music reflects in a very intense way the true portuguese mood (there are specific and unique moods that can be exclusively linked to a nationality). In my opinion Teresa's (Madredeus leadsinger) voice is the best portuguese voice ever (even better than Amália Rodrigues).

I love Madredeus too, we have O Paraiso and Ainda and Faluas do Tejo. Teresa has such a beautiful pure clear high voice! But I adore Amalia most of all, her voice carried such raw passion and pain.

I'm amazed! so many people knows Amália in Holland, gotta love the Ducth :)

the whole country hasn't gone fado crazy yet, but i do think for some of us, cristina branco has a special place in our heart. perhaps she feels the same about us - i believe her first performance as a professional singer was in this country and i think her management is dutch as well.

maybe one day when they have heard enough modern interpretations, everyone will return to the source, the starting point of all things fado: amalia rodrigues.. :)

I love Cristina Branco but I like the other version of the song too. Thanks.

Thank you so much for posting that! "Avec le temps" is such a gorgeous song and Cristina does a stunning version of it. I adore her voice, she just makes my heart stop. (Wende's version is nice too, and I hadn't heard her before.) Wherever did you find your lucky 17-track version of Corpo? Is it marked as a special edition of some kind?
Jun. 13th, 2007 09:49 pm (UTC)
on the cover it says Universal Classics France. i don't think it's a special edition, it was the only one they got when i bought it. i wouldn't even call it an import. a lot of the CDs we buy here are made elsewhere in europe.
Jun. 14th, 2007 04:55 am (UTC)
Aha! Maybe your copy was meant for the French market, since they added that gorgeous French song. My copy also says Universal Classics France, but it was made in the USA, so no French bonus track for US! (It's a theory.) Anyway, thanks, I love the song.

You should do this more often. (Post MP3s) :P
I think you have great taste in music.

Zero response on eight emails? Yes maybe a little weird but also not uncommon this time of year with people on vacation. Don't freak out, there may be some explanation for it.

Wonderful music. Makes me want to check out more Cristina Branco.

I'm not an admin, just a gunk/entries SH, but I figure just trying to do 3 touches in each of the cats you've worked in, maybe one cat per day, would be a good way to start back in. Obviously, take a few minutes to skim the FAQs for that cat before diving in. After that, you can maybe choose which cat you want to focus on the most, and put your efforts there?
Jun. 15th, 2007 12:49 am (UTC)
thanks. what you suggested isn't that much different from what i thought i'd do.
maybe i was just being silly, asking admins for tips and all that. i guess i thought asking couldn't hurt, but i should probably just go ahead and start.. :)

Lovely songs. Thank you for sharing them.

I'll post some Fado next 'Unknown Thursday'....Madredeus, Mariza or Dulce Pontes....some of the best contemporary Fado singers.

Jun. 15th, 2007 03:55 pm (UTC)
yay! that would be cool!

i know the idea behind unknown thursday is to post music a lot of people are not familiar with, but i could imagine that in a more surrealistic world thursdays are unknown to the people in belgium. perhaps they were cancelled because people didn't like them. some of the old folks would tell you stories of the good old days when the week had seven days..
okay never mind..

Jun. 15th, 2007 04:22 pm (UTC)
ssshhhtttt, you cannot talk about such things!
You'll get arrested by the government who abolished Thursdays!!!!

anyway...look at my journal, there's a present for you ;)

you've definitely not been forgotten -- on my part, I've just been extremely busy. :P
