albums

back in january i wrote an entry containing a list of the best albums of 2011. i didn't post it though.

this morning, saskia suggested why not do this now, but include a spotify playlist with tracks from the featured albums. it comes with the usual disclaimer of course: while it's getting easier nowadays to get a taste of new stuff before you decide you want to own it, new releases are still only a very small part of what i listen to.

and that's where you come in, to let me know about your own favourite tracks from 2011 so that i can catch up on other great songs that are out there. so, please do comment..

Van der Graaf Generator - A Grounding In Numbers
Kate Bush - 50 Words for Snow
Laura Marling - A Creature I Don't Know
Thurston Moore - Demolished Thoughts
dEUS - Keep You Close
Coldplay - Mylo Xyloto
Snow Patrol - Fallen Empires
Magazine - No Thyself
Tom Waits - Bad as Me
R.E.M. - Collapse into Now
Radiohead - The King of Limbs
Wire - Red Barked Tree
The Feelies - Here Before
Arctic Monkeys - Suck It and See

no long reviews, just start listening > here..

Great list. You should check out Cults by Cults. And St. Vincent's Strange Mercy has been in heavy rotation lately at this house.

Good of you to include Coldplay. I know it's not cool to like them but who cares, there are some pretty good tunes on Mylo Xyloto.

And I think you'll like the latest Florence + the Machine album.

yes! florence + the machine!
we also like the album barton hollow by the civil wars. you've probably never heard of them and they may be a bit too "country" for you.

i think you can say i'm not the biggest fan of "regular" country music. however, i really do like some alt-country singer-songwriter americana (or whatever you like to call it) from time to time. gillian welch, gram parsons, lambchop, cowboy junkies.. i will check out the civil wars album.

I'm afraid I've missed too much in 2011. Listened to older music. Haven't even bought Waits and Radiohead, two of my all time favorites.

Did buy some Dutch CD's though: Spinvis, Roosbeef. Both great albums from great artists.

same thing here. most of what i listen to is not from this decade, or even the previous one.. however, it has become a little easier to discover new stuff with services such as spotify and grooveshark or even vpro's luisterpaal & similar sites..

As we speak I am listening to the new Kyteman album via Spotify. 3voor12 is great as well. if it wasn't for those sites, my music collection would have ended in 1993...

Very interesting list. I'm certainly going to give some of those albums a listen.
Two albums I would like to suggest:
Wye Oak - Civilian. My partner likes this album very much.
Madeleine Peyroux - Standing on the Rooftop. I only discovered this album recently. Its predecessor received better reviews, but I think this is beautiful too.
