early

yes, i'm already up at 6.00am. i wanted to see a bit of tennis, before going to work.

i'm having a few computer problems. nothing i can't fix, but there's one thing that i find extremely irritating. i don't know if this ever happened to one of you: it's called homepage hijacking. here's how it works.. you choose a page as your homepage (that's where your browser goes when you click the 'home' button) and some software on your computer changes it to something else. you change it back, they change it back. this goes on and on. i even tried to change it in the registry, but it keeps coming back. now i have to look for programs or files that don't belong in certain directories.

this happened once before, so i know what to do. it can't do much damage, but like i said, it annoys me. it may take some time before i can finally get rid of it. and i'm a little disappointed in all the spyware and anti-virus programs that are running on my computer. they should have caught the little bugger!

That sounds terrible. Why do people hijack your browser? What is the use?
I added you as friend okay?

sure, that's ok

the whole point of changing your browser's homepage is that they want you to see their site. and that's usually one with lots of ads and popups.

i'd say there are 2 solutions

- use another browser :P

- modify the HOSTS file, but it get a bit more technical ( http://www.crowdesigns.us/hosts.htm ) ;)

thanks.
1. i use mozilla sometimes.
2. i do have a hosts file. it's part of a program called spybot. i believe this file has more than 8000 blocked server names. i solved the problem, by the way. apparently a program in the windows directory was writing in the registry, replacing the home page address every time i turned on the computer.

i had a look at your journal. nice! the designer you mentioned a few days ago, wim crouwel.. i own a book about that guy.
:p
